While walking down the streets of Stockholm, one can see the collection of the most boring cars manufactured in the last 20 years. Uncountable numbers of black and grey family estates complemented by grey and white SUVs. But behind this façade, there is an interesting selection of classic cars hidden in garages and lacking proper exposition. First Coffee Run organized by Swedish branch of Collecting Cars gives some hope that next year we can count on a proper car event in Stockholm.
Cars gathered on a big parking – a quite basic recipe for a car meet. There was fortunately more behind it. Firstly, it wasn’t just any parking. Located in Uppsala, Motikon is a unique place for petrolheads. Here you can buy your next classic, service the current one or just admire the vast collection of older and newer supercars.
For me one of the most eye-catching cars was the Jaguar XJ220. Even as a child I’ve had a soft heart for this amazing machine. Not only because of its looks but also for it being an interesting alternative for the more obvious Ferraris and Lambos.
Talking about my favourite cars from the childhood: Two Honda NSX were presented inside the building. Those were however the later models, lacking the pop-up headlights.
At the last moments of the event one of the participants appeared in another car which I remember very well from the early 90s – the Alfa Romeo SZ. Back in the days I thought that it’s ugly and didn’t understand why, with mere 200 horsepowers, it’s being listed with proper supercars. I’ve had to get a bit older to start to appreciate this model. Now it would definitely find a place in my dream garage.
I was very happy to see this event. I have a strong belief that next year we are about to see something spectacular from this team.
